📰 News we're reading

1. Ribbon cutting held for Clifton Highway 6 Improvement Project (westernslopenow.com) — Drivers in the Grand Junction–Clifton area will soon see smoother, safer travel now that the long‑running Highway 6 improvement project and new roundabout in Clifton are nearly complete. CDOT, Mesa County, and contractors overcame utility and soil challenges, and local officials say the upgrades should boost business access and make biking and walking through the corridor easier.

2. HomewardBound to not receive state funding in 2026 (westernslopenow.com) — HomewardBound of the Grand Valley will lose key state housing funds in 2026, even as the City of Grand Junction has stepped in with $185,000 to help winter operations. The nonprofit still faces a major funding gap, is consolidating into its Pathways Family Shelter, and will permanently close the North Avenue Shelter next year unless additional community support comes through.

3. Local nonprofits see donations spike on Colorado Gives Day (gjsentinel.com) — Grand Junction nonprofits saw a welcome boost in donations on Colorado Gives Day, with several groups at the Confluence Center surpassing their fundraising goals. Local organizations like One Riverfront, Colorado National Monument Association, and Grand Valley Audubon Society say the statewide giving push brought crucial attention and cash for projects ranging from riverfront work to wetland restoration.

4. Symphony Orchestra performing holiday songs this weekend, hiring for new position (gjsentinel.com) — Grand Junction families can peek behind the scenes of the sold‑out “Inside the Snowglobe” concerts at an open Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra dress rehearsal Saturday morning at Asteria Theatre. GJSO and Colorado Mesa University are also creating a new shared position that combines viola instruction with leading symphony education and outreach for the broader Grand Junction community.

5. Trump announces he is pardoning Tina Peters (kkco11news.com) — From Grand Junction, residents are learning that former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters has been publicly promised a pardon by Donald Trump, despite state officials insisting he has no authority over her state convictions. Local and state legal leaders emphasize Colorado’s independent control over its criminal justice system and say any such pardon would almost certainly fail in court.
