Now Hiring: Lakewood Police's 2019 Academy Class Deadline Is Near
Lakewood police are seeking new recruits and lateral officers for the department. Special tracks are available for veterans.
LAKEWOOD, CO – The Lakewood Police Department is urging new recruits and lateral officers interested in the July, 2019 academy class that the deadline is nearing.
Dec. 16 is the last day to apply for a position for next year's class.
The department is hiring agents, both new and lateral transfers. Agent salary starts at $59,571 and rises to $88,774 after five years. JeffCom is also hiring dispatchers.

The department prides itself on being accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and being the training ground for more than 70 police chiefs over the years.

- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- U.S. Citizen or proper I-9 documentation
- Other essential functions listed in the hiring process job description
- Other than drug offenses, no commission of any felony, convicted or not, after the age of 17
- Must possess a valid driver's license
If eligible, new recruits attend a 24-week paid police academy, (beginning in 2019) followed by a 16-week probationary period.
The department encourages women and minorities to apply. Veterans are given priority. The city does not have a residency requirement.
Lateral agents applying must have an active peace officer certification and at least three years of patrol experience.
