The police didn't say whether either driver was cited for the accident.

O'Donnell was on duty, but not on call at the time of the accident, the police department said.

Because the accident involved an on-duty officer and resulted in serious injuries, the Jefferson County Accident Response Team (JCART) was called to the scene to investigate the accident. The JCART is comprised of members from multiple law enforcement agencies in the area, the Lakewood police said.

One initial witness on scene said O’Donnell was traveling westbound on Colfax Avenue when an eastbound vehicle turned left in front of his motorcycle in order to enter a parking lot northbound, police said.

The investigation is ongoing so more details aren’t yet available.
