Man Who Videoed Women In Tanning Beds Gets 60 Years

Brandon Hansen continued to seek out pornography against court orders after serving two years in prison and on sexual offender supervision.

GOLDEN, CO – A man who was convicted in 2015 of secretly peeping at and taking videos of naked women in commercial tanning beds was sentenced to return to prison last week for violating the terms of his parole.

Brandon Hansen, 40, served two years in prison and was serving 10 years of sex offender intensive supervision probation, but continued to seek out pornography and violated terms of his parole, prosecutors said. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison on Nov. 6, the Jefferson County District Attorney's office said Thursday.

In 2014, Hansen was arrested and accused of breaking into tanning booths at the At the Beach tanning salon in Lakewood and secretly capturing video of unclothed women while they were tanning, the DA's office said. Police estimated there were 20 victims between 17 and 61 years of age. Hansen was also caught by Denver police in June, 2014 shooting "upskirt" videos of women on the Denver Pavilions escalator.

Hansen pleaded guilty to multiple counts in 2015, including invasion of privacy for sexual gratification. He was sentenced to eight years, and was released after two years and required to register as a sex offender, the DA's office said.

But Hansen allegedly violated the terms of his probation, which was revoked in September.

According to prosecutors, Hansen was found to have a smart phone with an internet connection, violating his probation agreement. He used the phone to visit porn sites and the phone gave him prohibited access to camera and video recording devices. Prosecutors said Hansen visited unapproved locations where children were present, including Water World, Elitch Gardens, Chatfield State Park, Adventure Golf, and hiking and biking trails.

" A review of his phone showed that while at Water World he viewed swimsuit porn videos such as 'Whore in a Swimsuit' and 'Free Chubby Swimsuit Strip,'" a statement from the DA said.

Hansen was kicked out of a sex-offender treatment program because of his "ongoing secret-keeping, manipulation, and deception," the program reported.

A probation officer searching Hansen's home found ammunition and hunting knives, the DA's office said.

At Hansen's re-sentencing hearing on Nov. 6, prosecutors asked for prison time, saying Hansen continued to engage in risky, sexualized behaviors. "Neither prison nor [sex offender supervised probation] had an impact on him," the DA's office said.

District Court Judge Lily Oeffler sentenced Hansen to three years in prison for each of the 20 victims, less time served.

"Hansen’s behavior is incorrigible. He feels no connection to how his conduct impacts victims," said JeffCo District Attorney Pete Weir in a statement. "In 2015 we hoped that an eight years prison sentence followed by the 10-year [sexual offender parole] sentence, which included treatment, and registering as a sex offender, would help ensure safety for the community. We were mistaken. This lengthy sentence is a necessary step to protect our citizens."
