- The mobile home park at 14th Avenue and Allison Street was the scene of an RV fire on Monday. West Metro Fire Rescue kept the flames from affecting nearby RVs and travel trailers. Experts believe that a space heater inside the vehicle caused the blaze. The human occupants made it out okay; a doggie didn’t. (West Metro Fire Rescue)
- A shootout outside the Colorado Mills Mall at 14500 West Colfax Avenue left customers rattled on Saturday. Two stores, Dick's Sporting Goods and Off Broadway Shoes, were damaged by bullets. Reportedly, two groups of people exchanged gunfire. Nobody was hurt, and nobody was arrested. (KDVR)
- Did you know that the Denver Federal Center at West 6th Avenue and Kipling Street is home to the National Science Foundation Ice Core Facility? While storing ice in Colorado might sound a little like carrying owls to Athens, we learned on Tuesday that this ice is 400,000 years old. By inspecting some of the samples, scientists realized that “greenhouse gas emissions have about doubled since the time most of the ice cores were formed.” (9 News)
- Talking about snow and ice, stay away from William Frederick Hayden Park at 1000 South Rooney Road. Officials closed it due to muddy trails. Give the soil some time to dry before hitting the trails again. (Lakewood Trails)
- Since January 1, you’ve been paying 10 cents for every plastic bag you’re getting at the grocery store. Lakewood’s got your back. The city’s handing out FREE reusable bags. Best of all, you could be the one determining what they look like. But hurry! You need to turn in your design by Friday at 5 p.m.! (Lakewood Together)
