CT First Congressional District: Larson, Lazor, Sanders
Incumbent Rep. John Larson will face off against Republican Dr. Larry Lazor and Green Party candidate Mary Sanders.

CONNECTICUT — The First Congressional District race in Connecticut is between longtime Rep. John Larson, Republican Dr. Larry Lazor and Green Party candidate Mary Sanders. The district represents the Hartford area.
John Larson (Democratic, Working Families)
Larson has represented the 1st Congressional District since 1999 and and served in the state senate for 12 years before that. He is a lifelong East Hartford resident.

Some of Larson’s primary goals in Congress include bolstering manufacturing jobs in Connecticut and green energy, according to his campaign biography.
He is also the chairman of the Ways and Means Social Security subcommittee and author of The Social Security 2100 bill, which would increase the cap on social security taxes from the current $132,900. It would also gradually increase the contribution rate into social security in order to keep the system solvent.

Larry Lazor (Republican)
Lazor is an OB/GYN and has practiced at Hartford Hospital since 1990 and a longtime Hartford-area resident.
He himself as a moderate Republican and said the 2020 presidential election wasn’t stolen, according to his campaign biography. The dishonest narrative led to the Jan. 6 attack on the capital.
He is concerned about federal spending levels and the national debt, as well as Connecticut’s lagging economic performance compared with other states.
Lazor doesn’t support the idea of a single-payer health care system, but said that drug costs need to be controlled and that primary care models should be better supported.
He is critical of President Joe Biden’s border policy.
Mary Sanders (Green Party)
Sanders describes herself as pro-choice, socially progressive, fiscally moderate. She supports the Green New Deal, universal medicare and cuts to the military and police budgets in order to fund education.
