CT Records $2M+ In Cannabis Sales During First 8 Days

The first day of sales was the strongest, followed by the first weekend day.

CONNECTICUT — The state eclipsed $2 million in cannabis product sales during the first eight days of operation, according to the state Department of Consumer Protection.

Opening day (Jan. 10) was by far the most popular, with $359,000 in sales. Jan. 14, which was the first weekend day of sales, was also a strong day with $317,000 in sales.

Seven dispensaries opened for recreational sales on Jan. 10. Still River Wellness in Torrington and The Botanist in Danbury will have delayed openings.

"These initial numbers are strong and reaffirm the Connecticut cannabis market will be vibrant and a strong economic player," said Michelle Bodian, lead Connecticut cannabis attorney with Vicente Sederberg. "45,000+ units sold in seven days is a strong start and proves the Connecticut cannabis market is robust."

More than 45,600 units were sold in the first eight days and the average price per item was about $44. Figures don’t include taxes that are collected at the point of sale. The potency taxes are:

  • Plant Material: $0.625 cents per milligram total THC
  • Edible Products: $2.75 cents per milligram total THC
  • Other Cannabis Products: $0.09 cents per milligram total THC
