Accumulating Snow Emerges In Forecast: Odds Of How Much To Expect Released
A chance for accumulating snow has emerged in our weather forecast. Here are the current odds as posted by the National Weather Service.
CONNECTICUT — Odds are increasing that Connecticut will see another round of wintry weather this weekend.
"Sunday, as (a) storm system moves in… initially, we’re expecting rain," said WFSB 3 TV chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney. "How an area of low pressure tracks relative to CT will dictate precipitation type. Based on current trends, we’re forecasting a switch to a mix Sunday evening/night before going over to snow before ending early Monday. Because of this, we’ve issued a First Alert for Sunday night into early morning, as there could be an impact to travel across the state. There is a lot of uncertainty, so as new data comes in, we’ll of course provide updates on timing and impacts."
The National Weather Service said the entire state has a chance of seeing three inches or more of snow Sunday night into Monday, but the highest odds currently are in Litchfield, Hartford, Tolland, and Windham counties along with inland sections of Fairfield and New Haven counties.

The odds of seeing three inches or more of snow in most sections of southern Connecticut are lower than northern Connecticut, according to the weather service.

"We're in for a cool down early next week with a shot at accumulating snow, then another warmup seems likely," the weather service said. "How much snow? It's too soon to tell exactly how much snow will fall Sunday night into Monday, but here are the odds of seeing more than 3 inches of snow. For many, it's a 50/50 shot...The uncertainty is due to differences in storm track. A track closer to New England would shift the higher accumulations farther north, while a more offshore track would favor Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southeast Massachusetts. Stay tuned for updates!"

More rain for now
The rain this morning should end by midday Thursday, but fog will persist, WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said.
"We’ll get a midday break from rain. Despite abundant cloud cover, temps peak in the upper 40s and lower 50s," Dixon and Haney wrote. "Then, more rain moves in late in the day. Rain this evening continues into the early morning hours of tomorrow. Thereafter, we end the week cloudy with highs in the 40s."
"Between now and the end of the week, we could pick up around 1″ of rain. This is not what we need given how much rain we’ve had in recent weeks and months, but it will occur over a span of few days, so flooding won’t be an issue," Dixon and Haney wrote. (Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
