CONNECTICUT — We're clearly in the midst of a very active weather pattern.

After Tuesday's storm dumped 2–4 inches of rain on Connecticut, which triggered numerous flood warnings across the state, we're looking at another rainstorm this weekend. And then there is a chance of a snowstorm on Tuesday, though that is very much up in the air currently.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for southern Connecticut from Friday evening through Saturday morning.

"Another deepening low will track up through the Great Lakes Saturday night, sending a strong frontal system through the area," the weather service said concerning southern Connecticut. "Moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall will fall across the area with a widespread 1 to 2 inches of rainfall with locally higher amounts possible. Due to the recent heavy rainfall event, streamflow is high and grounds are saturated. Quick responding rivers and streams will likely reach or exceed bankfull. In addition, coastal flooding will likely exacerbate flooding on tidal rivers."

A flood watch has been posted for northern Connecticut, too.

"A widespread 2 to 4 inches of rain fell Tuesday Night into Wednesday morning combined with rapid snowmelt. This resulted in numerous rivers and streams going into flood or expected to go into flood within 24 hours from the residual runoff. In addition...another widespread 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected Friday night into early Saturday. This may exacerbate current river and stream flooding and/or result in additional flooding. Therefore...the Flood Watch has been extended through Saturday."

WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said the late Friday/Saturday storm may be a "significant rainfall event, with the Weather Prediction Center placing much of CT in a “level 2″ risk for excessive rainfall Friday into Saturday."

"Rainfall amounts are expected to be in the 1-2″ range, with locally higher amounts possible. This will be in tandem with a gusty wind -- with gusts inland over 30 mph, and topping 40 mph along the shoreline," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. "This will be ramping up Friday and the storm peaks in the pre-dawn hours on Saturday."

And as for the chance of snow on Tuesday, "Early indications show the possibility for rain, mix, or snow. There are some significant modeled differences right now, so be sure to check back with us as we get closer."(Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
