Snow Forecast Changes: Updated Snow Estimates, Timeline Released For Friday

Here are the latest forecast updates on snow on Friday in Connecticut and the arrival of some dangerously cold weather this weekend.

CONNECTICUT — It now appears most of Connecticut will see very little measurable snow on Friday. A coating to less than an inch is forecast for most places now.

Western parts of the state could see an inch or possibly two inches of snow, the National Weather Service said.

Light snow and or flurries is still forecast to fall for a good chunk of the day, but it's not expected to add up to much, if anything.

Long Island and New York City, which are closer to the storm, could see 2–3 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Light snow and or flurries is forecast to begin around 10 a.m. in parts of the state, and the steadier light snow is forecast from noon until 6 p.m. in Connecticut.

Temperatures will remain very cold through the weekend before we moderate next week, though more rain is possible on Tuesday and Wednesday, and some snow might mix in.

"As we close out the week, an area of low pressure develops as it moves offshore from the East Coast. Doing so too late and too far from CT to produce meaningful snow for us. Essentially, it brushes CT with light snow, from later this morning into the afternoon hours," WFSB 3 TV Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney. "When it comes to accumulation, we’re thinking a coating to an inch (perhaps two) looks likely. The timing isn’t great as untreated surfaces could become slick, especially under foot, by the evening commute."

"The BIG story for the weekend will be the arrival of even colder air, Arctic air, combined with a gusty wind --- it will be downright blustery, perhaps dangerous at times!...Tomorrow features more clouds than sunshine. Temperatures start in the teens (feeling closer to zero, if not below with the wind) and only peak between 20 and 25! Sunday is brighter but continued cold. Temps likely start out at levels colder than tomorrow morning (with a subzero wind chill) then top out in the mid-20s." (Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
