Major Weather Changes Begin In October For CT, Plus An Update On 2 Big Tropical Systems

Two powerful tropical storms will pass well offshore of Connecticut but there are still impacts forecast. Here's what to know.

If you're wondering when it will actually begin to feel like fall, the answer comes on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, temperatures are approaching 80 degrees and then on Oct. 1 the high temperatures are forecast to only reach the upper 60s. Temperatures may even drop into the upper 30s in far northern sections of the state.

But the fall-like weather will only last a few days, as we're back into the upper 70s this weekend.

Impacts of tropical systems, Humberto and Imelda, on Connecticut

"We’re also monitoring Humberto and Imelda as they pass well offshore from Southern New England. Both will be deflected by a large area of high pressure that will build out of Canada," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "With CT positioned between the tropical systems and high pressure, expect breezy conditions tonight into tomorrow (gusts 20-25 mph).

"Thursday, expect a calmer wind as high pressure starts to crest overhead," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "Temperature-wise, only expect highs in the mid-60s (our coolest day of the next 7). With dry air in place and a calm wind Thursday night, temperatures inland could dip into the 30s (especially the usual cooler spots) by Friday morning! Herbs, vegetables and other sensitive plants may need protection if you want them to survive.

US National Weather Service Boston MA said, "Large waves are expected along the southern New England shoreline over the next couple of days, the result of distant tropical activity well offshore. Wave heights will build to 8–10 feet, with some waves approaching 12 feet south of the islands. Please stay off rocks, jetties, and other shoreline structures, as these conditions can be extremely dangerous. If you plan to head out to view the surf, remain well back from splashing waves."

Warm weekend forecast details

"While the calendar shows it’s time for pumpkin patches and corn mazes, it won’t feel festive. Temperatures will head back to late summer levels and with high pressure dominating, expect dry and bright weather both days. Saturday, temps peak in the mid to upper 70s. Sunday appears to be even warmer, with highs in the lower 80s!" said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).
