The National Weather Service has issued a coastal hazard message for southern Connecticut. It indicates a coastal flood watch will be in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon for southern New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties.
Flooding is possible near the waterfront and shoreline, “including roads, parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront,” according to the National Weather Service. It reports that from Sunday into Monday, 8 to 12 foot breaking waves are possible, meaning the potential for beach erosion.
The National Weather Service is predicting a long duration rainfall with an average of 1.5 to 3 inches, with the highest amount of precipitation along the coast.
“Storm and gale conditions are possible on the coastal waters,” the National Weather Service indicated, in a Friday morning report.
