Nor'easter To Produce Major Weather Impacts To Connecticut: Here Are The Full Details

A nor'easter is forecast to significantly impact Connecticut's weather prior to Memorial Day weekend and we may set some records too.

CONNECTICUT — A nor'easter is forecast to significantly impact Connecticut's weather on Thursday, forecasters say.

Thursday will be pretty dreadful from a weather standpoint, with temperatures only in the upper 40s with a cold, soaking rain with increasing wind gusts. WFSB 3 TV meteorologists say we may even break a record for low temperatures.

We're about to embark on a colder, more unsettled weather pattern for the remainder of the week, but the silver lining is that things will slowly improve for the Memorial Day weekend, especially on Sunday and Monday.

Tuesday, Wednesday forecast details

"As the week moves forward, temperatures trend progressively cooler while we pivot to an unsettled pattern," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "(Tuesday) starts with some sunshine, then our sky becomes partly to mostly cloudy. It will be cooler than yesterday, and not as breezy, with high between 60 and 65 -- so again, you’ll likely need a jacket. Tomorrow is overcast and even cooler with highs in the mid-50s. While our hump day starts dry, there will be an increasing chance for showers later in the day."

Nor'easter greatly impacts Thursday's weather

"As an area of low pressure moves into the Great Lakes region, another area of low pressure develops to our south. The second low becomes a nor’easter as it moves up the coast Thursday, bringing moderate to heavy rain and a gusty wind to CT," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. "Due to impacts to travel and outdoor plans, Thursday is a *First Alert Weather Day.* Furthermore, 1-2″ of rain (perhaps more) could fall leading to poor drainage flooding concerns. To add insult to injury, it will also be unseasonably cool with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s (closer to our normal overnight low for this time of year)! And get this, it may be cool enough that we could tie or break the record(s) for lowest or ‘coolest’ high temperature. For the 22nd of May, it’s 49 for the Hartford Area … it was set over 100 years ago in 1909! For Bridgeport, the record is 54 from 2005. Friday, as the nor’easter lifts away, we end the week with scattered showers. Otherwise, it’s cloudy with temps topping out near 60."

"After what will be soggy end to the work week, we anticipate improvement (slowly) over the Holiday weekend!" WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. "For now, Saturday appears to feature at least a chance for isolated showers (by no means a washout) with highs in the mid-60s. Sunday is dry, and under a mix of sun and clouds temps top out 70 or higher. Then, Memorial Day Monday should be dry and fairly bright with highs in the mid-70s inland and lower 70s along the shoreline." (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).
