Severe Thunderstorms Forecast As 'Oppressive' Humidity Returns In CT: Here's What To Know

If you love thunderstorms and excessive humidity, then this is the forecast for you.

It looks like it will be an exciting week of weather across Connecticut.

Periods of heavy rain, excessive heat and humidity and the chance for some severe weather too.

WFSB 3 TV meteorologists have declared Monday a "First Alert Weather Day as dew points climb even higher, pushing humidity into the oppressive range!"

There is also an "Air Quality Alert" in effect today from 11 AM to 11 PM for Litchfield and Fairfield counties for elevated ground level ozone, so anyone with respiratory conditions like asthma should limit time outdoors, WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said.

On Monday, a "few downpours and storms are possible into the afternoon hours, but we are not expecting any severe weather."

We can expect some fog on Tuesday morning, but then the story will be the excessive heat and humidity.

Severe weather chance on Tuesday

"‘Feels like’ temperatures will climb up into the 95-100° range and afternoon storms are possible, some of which could be strong, as an approaching cold front moves towards Connecticut," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. "Most of the state is currently under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for severe weather. The bulk of the tropical moisture from the remnants of Chantal will be east of us at this time, but some of any rain could be heavy at times, creating the risk for poor drainage flooding. Because of this Tuesday is a First Alert Weather Day."

More storm chances on Wednesday, Thursday and especially on Friday

While the humidity may slightly drop on Wednesday, more storms are possible on Wednesday and Thursday and on Friday "oppressive humidity returns, bringing with it the risk of more widespread storms," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).

As of right now, Saturday looks nice and Sunday features showers and more storms, forecasters said.
