A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Fairfield County until 9 p.m.
Original post: Connecticut may see strong to severe thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon and evening, which could lead to flash flooding concerns and potentially damaging wind gusts. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Fairfield County until 9 p.m.
On top of the severe weather concerns, it will also feel like 100 degrees on Tuesday. Thunderstorms are forecast to develop, which could trigger downpours, forecasters said.
"Some of these storms could be strong. Most of the state is currently under a level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "Also, there will be plenty of moisture in the atmosphere, leading to heavy rainfall. A Flood Watch has been posted for the entire state starting at 2pm today and lasting until late tonight. Poor drainage flooding, even some flash flooding is possible under downpours, impacting travel. This is especially true in areas where storms train (keep moving over the same locations). The entire state is now in a level 2 out of 4 risk for excessive rainfall. "
The National Weather Service said locally heavy rainfall is possible, and rainfall rates may be near, or exceed, 2 inches per hour at times. This rainfall could lead to flash flooding, the weather service added.
Timeline for severe thunderstorms on Tuesday
The weather service said the severe thunderstorm threat is most likely between 2-10 p.m. and that a "few thunderstorms may be severe with damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph."
A FLOOD WATCH is in effect for our area from 2 PM today until 2 AM Wednesday. Showers & thunderstorms along a slow-moving cold front this afternoon & evening may produce torrential downpours. Stay alert for rapidly rising water. Turn around, don't drown! pic.twitter.com/0yAgVuCq4i

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday remain unsettled but better conditions for the weekend
On Wednesday, there is a chance for "isolated showers or storms will be possible again tomorrow afternoon, though the day looks much drier overall."
And you guessed it, "Thursday will still be muggy and it’s looking fairly wet as low pressure moves along the front stalled to our south. Rain will be possible at any point, though storms will be most likely in the afternoon and evening. The increased cloudiness will keep temperatures between 75 and 80. Friday will be cloudy and seasonable, though still muggy. Isolated storms will be possible again."
And as for the weekend, it still looks humid but now both Saturday and Sunday are trending drier and some sun on Sunday. (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).
