Here's How Much Snow/Rain To Expect Sunday: New Estimates Released
Another storm is forecast for Connecticut, and here are the latest details on when and how much snow and rain to expect.
CONNECTICUT — Another storm is forecast for Connecticut, and this one on Sunday will bring a mix of snow and rain to the state, and snow accumulations are forecast to be minor.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for Tolland/Windham county from 6 a.m. Sunday until 7 p.m. Monday. "Mixed Precipitation. Total snow accumulations of up to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph."
In northern sections of Fairfield and New Haven County, the National Weather Service said, "A wet snow this morning, potentially lingering into this afternoon, may bring a light accumulation to around 1 inch, mainly for higher elevations along the I-84 corridor. Some higher elevations could see around 2 inches if the snow is heavier allowing temperatures to drop closer to freezing."

And in Litchfield County, the weather service said, "A mix of rain and snow will spread across the region today, with a transition to mainly snow for tonight. A light accumulation is expected, with some moderate amounts in higher terrain areas."
"We are seeing rain spreading everywhere through our state and a wintry mix already possible in some northern locations," WFSB 3 TV Meteorologist Jill Gilardi and Lorin Richardson said on Sunday morning. "The Winter Weather Advisory has been extended to the NE corner, however everyone in the state within the next 24 hours has a chance to see some mix or snow. This storm system is dependent on temperatures, but no matter what the precipitation type it looks messy.

"It’s possible to see the rain flipping over to some accumulating snow and mix this morning with some dynamic cooling in place and that could mean a tricky drive, especially anywhere along and north of I-84. Most areas will see rain, especially in southern counties, but the snow could continue to fall in northern areas, creating some slick spots and light accumulation," Gilardi and Richardson said.
"The second round will start as snow on Sunday evening across the NW hills, and mainly rain or a wintry mix points east before transitioning to all snow on Sunday night. Snow falling after dark on Sunday and into Monday morning will have the best chance of sticking across a larger portion of CT and could create additional slick spots and the reason for the First Alert Weather Day," Gilardi and Richardson said.
"We’re forecasting 3-5″ & locally higher amounts across NW CT, including NW Hartford County. We are also forecasting 3-5″ across the higher terrain of NE CT. As you go down in elevation, the amounts trend lower. 1-3″ for an elevation that is at or above 300-500 feet, and a coating to 1″ elsewhere. Once again, the immediate shoreline will see the least. IF temperatures trend milder then we will have to decrease the forecast amounts and lower potential travel impacts but IF they trend colder then the opposite would occur. The kind of snow that falls will be heavy and wet, so be careful shoveling. The kids will love it though since it will be great for molding. Highs in the middle and upper 30s inland and lower 40s along the shoreline," Gilardi and Richardson said.(Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
