CT Weather: Timeline For Severe Weather On Friday Released: Here's What You Need To Know

If you have outdoor plans on Saturday, here's some bad news for you as more rain and storms are forecast too.

There is a chance for severe thunderstorms across the state on Friday afternoon and evening, and the best chance for severe weather is in interior sections of the state and northern Connecticut, according to forecasters.

"We end the workweek on a muggy note, and while warm it won’t be as hot as yesterday with highs between 80 and 85," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "Along a stalled frontal boundary draped across Southern New England, isolated to scattered showers and storms develop (especially across inland CT) with the daytime heating.

"Because of the threat of heavy rain and lightning to outdoor activities, we’ve declared a *First Alert Weather Day.* If the front ends up stalling farther north, then the likelihood will be lower. The Storm Prediction Center, currently, has northern areas of CT along the MA border under a Level 2 risk for the threat of strong to severe afternoon storms. The rest of the state is at Level 1, so keep an eye to the sky..." said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists.

In southern Connecticut, the National Weather Service said there is a 30 percent chance of showers and storms, mainly after 5 p.m. and up until 11 p.m.

In northern Connecticut, showers and storms are forecast after 2 p.m. and "Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall." The chance for storms is at 60 percent in northern Connecticut. A quick inch of rain could fall with any storms.

"Tomorrow appears to start dry but turns wet as a cold front moves through the region. Showers become likely by mid-morning, then end during the afternoon," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "So while not a washout, it won’t be entirely dry. Temps will be cooler, seasonably so, as they peak in the low to mid-70s (this will also lead to less instability, so there’s a lower chance for storms to develop). For Sunday, behind the front, we expect drier and relatively brighter weather with decreasing humidity." (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).

In northern Connecticut, the weather service said showers and storms are forecast before noon Saturday and throughout the day. The chance for showers and storms is at 70 percent on Saturday and the rain should end by 7 p.m.

In southern Connecticut, the weather service said there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday.
