Dirt Bike Rider Killed In Collision With Jeep In Plainfield: PD

The accident happened Monday evening, according to police.

PLAINFIELD, CT — A local man died Monday after the dirt bike he was operating and a Jeep collided on Norwich Road, according to police.

The victim has been identified as Nicholas Collelo, 24, of 744 Norwich Rd., according to police Lt. Troy A. Gelinas.

Police received several 911 calls reporting the accident, which happened around 7:08 p.m. near 721 Norwich Rd.

Officers who responded found Collelo unconscious in the roadway and began life-saving measures, police said. Collelo was rushed to Plainfield Backus Hospital, but he did not survive.

The driver of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler, a 22-year-old Brooklyn, Conn. woman, remained on scene and cooperated with police, Gelinas said.

Police said an initial investigation revealed that Collelo was traveling northbound on Route 12, or Norwich Road, when he lost control of the dirt bike, entered the southbound lane, and collided with the Jeep.

The crash is still under investigation.
