Former Ansonia Mayoral Candidate Accused Of Swindling $20K From Elderly Resident: PD

A larceny charge was lodged on Wednesday, according to police.

ANSONIA, CT — A city employee who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2023 is accused of stealing more than $20,000 from an elderly resident, according to police.

Harry Danley, 55, of Ansonia, who works for the city’s public works department, was arrested on a warrant June 4 and charged with first-degree larceny.

Police Lt. Patrick Lynch confirmed Thursday that Danley works for the city’s public works department and ran for mayor in 2023.

Police said they launched an investigation after a conservator for an 85-year-old city resident reported a possible theft in March 2025.

Investigators determined numerous checks had been written to Danley dating back to 2020, police said.

According to police, there appeared to be “no legitimate reason” for the checks, which totaled more than $20,000.

Danley was released on a $35,000 bond, and he is due to appear in Superior Court in Derby on June 18.
