WFSB meteorologists said Tuesday’s freezing weather was even colder due to the wind and was 20 degrees lower than the average for this time of year.

“We might have seen some flurries overnight, but the cold [was] the headline; it [was] really cold out there,” said Scot Haney of the freezing temperatures.
Haney said in Bristol it was 11 degrees on Tuesday, but with the wind chill it felt more like 4 below zero.

“The wind is the problem; it makes it feel much colder,” he said. “It’s pretty brutal, so bundle up.”
Haney said temperatures Tuesday morning dropped 15 to 16 degrees from where they were 24 hours prior. In addition, temperatures are low for this time of year.
“We’re supposed to be at 35, not 15,” he said. “We’re 20 degrees below average. That’s mother nature forgetting to flip the old heat switch on that sun-ball there.”
Haney said winds subsided by Tuesday afternoon, with mostly sunny skies later in the day. However, despite the winds dying down, temperatures were still extremely cold overnight.
“It was very, very cold [Tuesday night], with six degree temperatures,” he said. “It will be colder than this morning, but there won’t be a lot of wind.”
Temperatures are expected to increase somewhat throughout the week.
Wednesday will see a mostly sunny day with temperatures climbing back to 33 degrees inland and 35 by the shore.
Thursday will be partly to mostly cloudy, with a low temperature of 22 and a high of 36 inland and 37 by the shore.
Friday will have partly to mostly cloudy weather as well, with low temperatures of 21 degrees, highs of 29 inland and highs of 31 degrees by the shore.
Haney said this weekend will be still cold, but partly to mostly sunny.
“There are no major storms in sight,” he said.
Saturday will see a low temperature of 10 degrees, with a high of 25 degrees inland and 28 by the shore.
Sunday’s temperatures will see a low of 9 degrees, with a high of 30 inland and 32 by the shore.
