Juvenile Stabbed During Altercation Involving 10 People: Torrington Police

An 18-year-old is accused of stabbing the victim during an argument, according to police. The victim was also charged, police said.

TORRINGTON, CT — A juvenile male suffered a stab wound Sunday during an altercation on Turner Avenue involving multiple youths.

An 18-year-old, Nyema Oneal-Rivas, has been charged with assaulting the minor, police said.

Police were summoned to a residence on Turner Avenue around 4:45 p.m. Sunday for a report of an altercation involving up to 10 youths, according to police.

Officers found a male juvenile with a small laceration to his abdomen. The youth was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, where he was treated and released. According to police, the youth is recovering from the injury. Police did not release his identity or age.

All of the individuals involved in the altercation know each other, according to police. The juvenile victim had gone to the residence with a friend so the friend could see his child.

At the residence, the juvenile stabbing victim got into a verbal dispute with a juvenile female and Oneal-Rivas, police said. Police secured video footage from a nearby business for their investigation, as they said they got “limited cooperation” from individuals at the scene.

According to police, Oneal-Rivas can be seen physically striking the juvenile in the face with a closed fist. This resulted in the juvenile male striking Oneal-Rivas multiple times, police said. After a few seconds, Oneal-Rivas can be seen retrieving something from her pocket and striking the juvenile male once.

Police said they found a small folding knife in Oneal-Rivas' property. According to police, it is currently unknown if this was the weapon used to injure the male juvenile.

Oneal-Rivas, of 26 Barton St., Torrington, was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. Oneal-Rivas is due to be arraigned in Superior Court in Torrington on Monday.
