THOMPSON, CT — A water monitor lizard that went missing in Webster, Massachusetts, has officially crossed state lines.

Goose the lizard was spotted in Thompson on Friday, nearly one week after he went missing, according to a news release from the town.

The animal was seen in the Little Pond area, but has not yet been captured.

Goose is 5 feet long, and authorities say he is an unlicensed pet. It is illegal to own this type of lizard in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Water monitors are known to travel, climb trees and find water, according to Webster Animal Control. They don’t typically attack humans or pets, but they recommend not approaching the animal.
