'Powerful' Storm Emerges: Timeline, Here's What You Need To Know In CT

A powerful coastal storm may produce significant impacts on Connecticut. Here are the new details on the forecast.

An approaching potential coastal storm could soak Connecticut in the middle of next week, just before Halloween, according to the latest forecast.

Details are still uncertain as of Friday, but National Weather Service forecasters say a storm could form and impact the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

"Periods of moderate to locally heavy rain and gusty east to northeast winds are possible with this storm, but details are uncertain," the National Weather Service said.

If a coastal storm does form, it could combine with the impacts of Tropical Storm Melissa and create nasty beach conditions, AccuWeather forecasters warned.

"Melissa will be a powerful storm generating huge waves north of Cuba. The impacts will be felt at U.S. beaches hundreds of miles away as the storm moves over the western Atlantic," AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva said. "This has been a challenging year for beach erosion along the East coast."

Direct impacts from Melissa to the U.S. East Coast are not likely. But it still could affect Connecticut.

The prognosticators at WFSB predict our weather pattern will remain intact through Monday and Tuesday, before it all gets dicey: "Thereafter, Wednesday into Thursday, you may need the umbrella with rising chances for rain," the forecasters warned. "The timing and totals by late week will be dependent on the track of a potential coastal storm. We could use rain given the abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions across the state."

It's not clear if the storm will last into Thursday, and the forecast for Friday - Halloween - is still too far out for details to be available, meteorologists said.
