Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Connecticut In Advance Of 4th Of July Holiday

More potentially severe thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts, and even hail are in the forecast before things change for the long weekend.

In an update, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire state of Connecticut up until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service, said "Scattered instances of damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph for much of the area are possible." Some power outages are possible, along with "Isolated instances of 1 inch hail," according to the weather service. The weather service said storms are possible anytime between 1-10 p.m.

WFSB 3 TV meteorologists are calling Thursday a “First Alert Weather Day,” with a potential for strong to severe storms, including damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, frequent lightning and even hail later this afternoon and evening, as a cold front moves in. The weather could impact afternoon travel and fireworks displays, according to the station.

“While isolated storms will be possible in the early afternoon, it’s the late afternoon and evening when storms will be more numerous and be at their strongest,” WFSB reported.

Once the cold front passes through, the July 4 holiday and the rest of the weekend will be sunny, according to WFSB.

“Friday, the 4th of July, appears near perfect with ample sunshine and low humidity,” WFSB reports. “Temperatures peak in the low to mid-80s, near normal for early July. Whether your plans take you to a cookout, a parade, or evening fireworks, the weather cooperates!”

Heat and humidity returns, especially on Sunday

For Saturday and Sunday, it will remain dry, though it will start to become hotter and more humid as the weekend progresses. Temperatures Saturday are expected to reach into the mid-80s, followed by upper 80s and even the lower 90s come Sunday, according to WFSB.
