Strong Storm Leads To Hazardous Weather Outlook Being Issued For CT: Here's What To Know

Here's the updated timeline concerning the arrival of this strong storm and whether it will impact Halloween festivities.

Heavy rain and gusty winds are expected to batter Connecticut starting on Thursday, though meteorologists say it will be dry for trick or treaters on Halloween.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Thursday and Thursday night.

A storm system will bring “moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds,” and up to two inches of rainfall, with localized higher amounts possible, according to the National Weather Service.

WFSB meteorologists suggest preparing for Thursday’s storm today, by securing loose items and removing leaves from storm drains.

WFSB is designating Thursday as a “First Alert Weather Day,” as a “windswept rain” will develop across Connecticut.

Timeline for storm’s arrival

The station predicts Thursday will start out with a little rain, then the precipitation and wind will both “ramp up” Thursday afternoon and evening.

“We expect the peak, or worst, to come at night,” WFSB reports. “While Hurricane Melissa won’t directly impact CT, some moisture from it will be drawn in our direction, enhancing the potential for heavier rain as it interacts with this area of low pressure.”

WFSB is predicting rain totals in the one to two inch range, with the potential for higher amounts. It is also warning of poor drainage flooding and possible minor coastal flooding during high tide. Winds could reach 30 to 40 miles per hour, WFSB reports.

Halloween will be very windy

Friday will have some lingering and isolated precipitation in the morning, then it will be dry, with gusty winds, still in the 30 to 40 mile per hour range, according to WFSB.

“For trick-or-treaters we’re expecting dry weather,” WFSB reports. “Although it is going to be windy, after reaching the lower 60s, temps should fall into the lower 50s after sunset.”
