Original post: CONNECTICUT — Slow-moving scattered thunderstorms could bring heavy rainfall and potential flooding to the state Monday, forecasters predict.
According to WFSB, there will be scattered thunderstorms developing Monday afternoon, particularly in the western portion of Connecticut, as a cold front approaches from the west.
Flooding concerns, heavy rain expected Monday
The station indicates the storms will be slow moving, and therefore have the potential to produce between two and four inches of precipitation, which could mean flooding.
A flood watch is in effect from noon to midnight for Hartford, northern New Haven, Litchfield, and Fairfield counties.
WFSB reports that the strongest storm potential is after 3 p.m. There is also a potential for strong winds with the storms.
WFSB is calling Monday a First Alert Weather Day due to the storm potential. The storms will weaken to showers later Monday night.
Tuesday is looking mostly cloudy, with the potential again for showers and storms in the afternoon, according to WFSB. The station predicts a heat wave will begin, with highs reaching around 90 degrees.
Another heat wave for us
WFSB is declaring Tuesday through Friday as First Alert Weather Days also, as it predicts heat index values will be in the 95 to 100 degree range.
"The heat risk will be moderate on Tuesday, then major on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Isolated storms are possible on Thursday, becoming scattered on Friday connected with a cold front. The timing of this front will determine the intensity of the associated storms, but some of them could be strong to severe," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).
