Badly Injured Dog In Avon Pulls Through After Surgery: ACO: UPDATE
Avon police are investigating if the Lhasa Apso was thrown out of a moving vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

AVON, CT — A badly injured dog that may have been thrown out of a moving vehicle has pulled through surgery, according to Avon's animal control officer, though her recovery will be long.
Avon Animal Control Officer Angela Grano wrote that "Amelia Airheart," a female Lhasa Apso, Wednesday survived a large operation to repair a broken pelvis and a hernia, in addition to being spayed.
Grano said the recovery will take at least a month and she is looking for a foster family to help her through the process.

"I am still vetting all foster applicants. Please PM me your phone number if interested. Seeking quiet calm household," wrote Grano. "Understand her recovery process will be at least a month."
Grano said a metal plate was placed in her pelvis, which was fractured in four places.

Meanwhile, the Town of Avon is seeking donations to help with Amelia's recovery.
While efforts to help Amelia recover continue, so does a police probe into what may have been a hideous crime.
Local police are still investigating the circumstances that resulted in the small dog being badly injured after it exited a moving vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
The Avon Police Department said it received a complaint shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, about an injured dog that either jumped out of a moving vehicle or was thrown out of the vehicle.
Police said the incident was reported to be in the area of a Petco store at 9 West Avon Road.
According to the APD, the vehicle connected with the incident is thought to be a blue sport utility vehicle.
The Avon Police Department is currently looking for surveillance footage from local businesses or witnesses who may have been in the area of West Avon Road (Route 167) and West Main Street/Albany Turnpike (Route 44) on Tuesday, July 23, at approximately 4 p.m.
According to the Avon Animal Control Department, the surgery to treat her cost close to $6,000.
"If anyone is willing to contribute to the Avon Pet Pantry towards her surgery it would be so very appreciated," wrote Grano via social media Tuesday.
"Decisions like this are never easy, but I’m going to do all I can to try to save this girl‘s life. She deserved better and never asked for anything but love," wrote Grano.

Checks can be made out to "Avon Pet Pantry Cash" and they can also be dropped off to Grano or Christine at Avon Social Services, Building 5.
