Avon To Host America 250 Planning Forum Next Week

AVON, CT — Next year is less than a month away, and on Monday, Avon is hosting an organizational meeting to help plan for a 2026 full of patriotism and community spirit.

The Town of Avon is hosting a public forum, accessible both in-person and virtually, on Monday, Dec. 8, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Building #1, Avon Town Hall, 60 W. Main St.

There, a framework for how Avon will celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States, which is next year, will be discussed and planned.

"As we look ahead to 2026 and prepare for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, we want to recognize and thank the many Avon residents who have already contributed to Avon’s America250 efforts," wrote the town in an announcement.

"The national celebration of America's 250th birthday next year offers a unique opportunity for our community to come together and commemorate this significant milestone. This is a celebration that should be shaped by the citizens of Avon themselves."

Monday's meeting is for all organizations and residents who wish to learn more about Avon’s preliminary plans for America250 and, more importantly, to contribute their own ideas and help shape next year’s activities.

Among the ideas to explore are adding 250th elements to Avon's Memorial Day Parade and town-wide patriotic decorating.

"We encourage all interested residents to attend, in person or virtually, and help us make Avon's America250 celebration a memorable occasion," wrote the town.
