Avon Looks Ahead Toward Safer Bicyclist/Pedestrian Options
A town forum on a master plan regarding bicyclist/pedestrian issues in town was well attended Tuesday.

AVON, CT — The numbers have been crunched, the input gathered and Avon's plans to improve bicycle and pedestrian use in town have reached a critical point.
Tuesday, the Town of Avon hosted the second of two public meetingson its bicycle and pedestrian master planning effort.
And, according to town officials, turnout was pretty good at the Avon Senior Center located at 635 West Avon Road.

There, local residents and town officials heard from Holly Parker and Fiona Flynn of SLR Consulting, which was hired by the town to collect data and offer up options regarding pedestrian/bicyclist enhancements in town.
SLR will continue to work with town officials and develop a set of recommendations to the Avon Town Council in September.

"Following the presentation, we anticipate opening a public comment period to receive comments and feedback on the recommendations," wrote the Town of Avon Wednesday.
"The final master plan document, inclusive of these recommendations and any feedback received, will be considered for adoption by town council later this fall."
According to the SLR report unveiled Tuesday, options include a network of both separate bicycle and pedestrian lanes for folks to navigate around town.
While no conclusions were drawn about what Avon should do, Tuesday's forum did, according to officials, show that enhancements are desired, evidenced by 84 percent of survey respondants stating they would support more sidewalks in their neighborhood.
The report listed specific parts of town that could benefit from these measures toward the overall goal of a more bicyclist- and pedestrian-friendly Avon.
