Avon Program To Take A Look At Invasive Species

The program is Wednesday, March 1, at the Avon Free Public Library and it will include a movie and a discussion.

AVON, CT — The town's library and clean energy group is hosting a special event next week that will address something we all should be wary of — invasive plant, insect and animal species in our environment.

A special documentary movie entitled "Uninvited: The Spread of Invasive Species" will be shown in the Avon Free Public Library's Community Room on Wednesday, March 1, at 7 p.m.

The library is located at 281 Country Club Road.

"Uninvited" tells the story of invasive species in New York State and how that state's Department of Environmental Conservation and their partners are tackling them.

A post-film discussion will be led by Jody Morgan from the Garden Club of Avon, and Dr. Susan Masino, the Vernon D. Roosa Professor of Applied Science at Trinity College.

One nearby town, Southington, is actually planning to use an army of goats to eat invasive plant species at a local park there.
