Avon Schools Prep For New Kindergarten Age Rules

AVON, CT — The local school system is reaching out to the parents of future kindergartners in light of recent state legislation changing the starting age of kindergartners.

Recently, it was approved that eligible pupils had to turn 5 by Sept. 1 of a given year, not Dec 31.

Essentially, the new rules mean that youngsters who turn 5 after Sept. 1 must wait a year for kindergarten.

This week, Avon schools sent a letter to parents explaining the situation, which impacts the 2024-25 school year.

In addition, the letter also has a link to a survey for families to complete to assist the district in planning for the 2024-2025 school year.
