Avon Senior Citizens to Receive Food Assistance
The new food assistance program will help low-income senior citizens.

Senior citizens in Avon will be able to receive food assistance, reports the Hartford Courant.
The state is now participating in the federal Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which helps low-income senior citizens at no cost to them.
Since the program began, local food assistance agencies have been spreading the word about the program and signing people up to receive help.

Each month, the participants receive a box of food that includes mostly non-perishable items, but also protein items.
There are income guidelines for the program, and documentation must be shown in order to participate.
