Avon Opens Warming Centers For Latest Cold Snap
The state has implemented cold-weather protocols this week, prompting municipalities to do the same.
AVON, CT — Avon officials have activated severe cold-weather protocols this week, in line with Gov. Ned Lamont's activation of the state's protocols.
The alert started at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, and it continues to Sunday, Jan. 4.
As a result, the town reminds the public that warming centers are available at the Avon Senior Center and the Avon Free Public Library during normal business hours as follows:

Hours: Tuesday (Dec. 30) 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday (Dec. 31) 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday (Jan. 1) closed, Friday (Jan. 2) 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If residents need protection from the extreme cold when warming centers are unavailable, call Non-Emergency Dispatch at 860-409-4200, and the town will make arrangements to provide access to a warming facility
