Avon Voters To Decide New School Central Office Site

A special town meeting will take place Tuesday, Dec. 10, to bond funds to purchase a building site for new Avon Board of Education offices.

The current Avon Board of Education offices at 34 Simsbury Road, above, are in disrepair, and renovating them to necessary standards is more expensive than purchasing a new site at 200 Fisher Drive.

AVON, CT — Voters have some work to do Tuesday evening as they will decide on a nearly $3.2 million purchase to pave the way for a new Avon Board of Education headquarters.

The special town meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 7:00 p.m. at the Avon High School auditorium, which is located at 510 West Avon Road.

There, registered voters in town will decide the following question: "To consider and act upon a Resolution Appropriating $3,187,000 for the Acquisition of Real Property and the Renovation of the Facility Located at 200 Fisher Drive and Authorizing the Issuance of $3,187,000 Bonds of the Town to meet said Appropriation and Pending the Issuance Thereof the Making of Temporary Borrowings for such Purpose."

School officials say the current site at 34 Simsbury Road is deteriorating, with the basement unusable due to water damage.

The new location is presently an office building and purchasing and renovating the site for a school office is expected to be less expensive than renovating the current building.

School officials hope the move could be complete by summer 2025 if voters say "yes."
