Avon's Future Kindergarten Parents Reminded Of New Rules

AVON, CT — School officials are reaching out to parentsof future kindergartners to remind them of the registration process and new state laws that change who is able to enroll.

Avon Public Schools has sent out a letter with information regarding Avon’s 2024-25 kindergarten registration process

It also includes information about how families can submit a formal request for early enrollment.

This is more of an issue for next school year as it is the first year of a new state law that limits kindergarten to pupils who turn 5 prior to Sept. 1.

Currently, children can enroll in kindergarten if they turn 5 by Dec. 31, but an educational push by proponents to tweak the age requirement — citing test scores and maturity issues — was pushed through the legislature last year.

Enrollment for kindergarten in Avon will begin on Thursday, Feb. 1.
