AVON, CT — Pets can be expensive and, often, they are among the first to suffer when someone experiences economic insecurity.

But the Town of Avon's Animal Control Department, located at 11 Arch Road, Avon, cut the ribbon Tuesday on a new feature that will help, in their words, keep pets at home and out of the shelter.

The town hosted a grand opening event at the Arch Road facility for its "Avon Pet Pantry."

Just like a community food pantry that helps those struggling economically with people's food, the pet pantry is aimed at helping pet owners feed their beloved animals during tough economic times.

The pantry, which even offers curbside service, provides all sorts of food options for pet owners in need and it relies on donations to get the job done.
