Avon's 'Pet Pantry' To Celebrate One Year Of Helping Pet Lovers
The Avon Pet Pantry is hosting a special celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 3, to mark one year of aiding financially challenged pet owners.
AVON, CT — The "Avon Pet Pantry" will celebrate its inaugural year of helping pets and pet owners in town with a special "Pet Pantry Celebration" on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The event will take place from 10 to 11 a.m., with guests invited to stop by and enjoy coffee and cookies at the Avon Animal Control Department, 11 Arch Road.
Founded in December 2023, the Avon Pet Pantry is a place for people to donate pet food, toys, treats, and cash to help local pet lovers who may be struggling economically.

Folks are being asked to bring any donations to the pet pantry during the celebration if possible.
Often, help received can be the difference between someone keeping a pet or having to give their beloved family member up.

According to the town's animal control department, the Avon Pet Pantry in its first year has been able to:
• Assist many pets and families with food assistance
• Pay nearly $10,000 in surgical costs and revisits as well as rehabilitation for the infamous Amelia Airheart,a badly abused and injured dog in the care of the Town of Avon.
• Assist with spay/neuter and placement for nearly a dozen abandoned or feral cats and one abandoned Guinea pig.
The Avon Pet Pantry is open the first Tuesday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon.
A donation bin is located outside the door of the animal control building located at 11 Arch Road.
"We encourage donation drop-offs from Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to avoid bears from discovering the bin," wrote Avon Animal Control.
