Bank Donation Will Benefit Horse Guards Barn
Northwest Community Bank recently made the donation to the Avon Historical Society.

The Avon Historical Society recently received a $750 donation from Northwest Community Bank, and as part of the ongoing exterior work on the 1880 Horse Guards Barn, the donation was received to paint the newly constructed south wall.

Andy Whalen from Maher’s Paint in Avon donated the 15 gallons of paint for the project.

The Hartford Courant reports that the state owns the barn and leases it to the society. From 1954 to 2002 the barn was the home of the First Company Governor’s Horse Guards but it has not been used for anything since then.
The society wants to renovate the building for storage and special events. The ongong restoration has been funded with grants and donations, according to society officials.
