Big Y Shopping Bag Sales To Help Avon Celebrate America's 250th

AVON, CT — Purchasing a reusable shopping bag will do more than just help the environment.

It will help one Avon-based organization organize local celebrations of a major national birthday next year.

The Avon Historical Society has been selected as a Big Y Community Bag Program beneficiary for July 2025.

A portion of the bag proceeds all month long will be earmarked for the expenses of the Avon’s America 250 Commemoration during 2026.

The Big Y Community Bag Program, which launched in January 2019, is a reusable bag program that

aims to make "a difference in the communities where shoppers live and work," according to Big Y.

The Avon Historical Society was selected as the July 2025 beneficiary of the program for the Big Y located at 255 W. Main St. (Route 44), Avon.

As a result, the society will receive a $1 donation every time the $2.50 reusable community bag is purchased at this location during July.
