Driver from Lovely Street One-Car Crash in Serious Condition

Gary Wright, 17, remains in Connecticut Children's Medical Center being treated after a late January accident.

A Canton teen who crashed his mother's car into a utility pole late evening Jan. 23 is still recovering in Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

Gary Wright's condition has improved from critical to "serious," Patch confirmed with hospital spokesperson Kelley Coffey on Thursday. Wright turned 17 after more than a week of being in the hospital and he has been there for nearly a month.

Passenger Michael Follert, 19, of Avon, is no longer at Hartford Hospital, according to hospital spokesperson Rebecca Stewart. Both Wright and Follert were airlifted via Life Star to the hospital the night of the accident to be treated for serious injuries, police previously said.

Follert graduated from Avon High School last year. So did Frank O'Connor, 18, Wright's other passenger. O'Connor, who was thrown from the car, was the first to be released from the hospital on Jan. 25 with minor injuries.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
