As Injured Dog Recovers, Avon's Police Chief Thanks Community
The chief of police in Avon Friday thanked the local community for helping pay for surgery to save a dog thrown out of a vehicle last week.

AVON, CT — The town's police chief Friday sent out a heartfelt letter to the community for donating to save the life of an abandoned dog late last week.
The Town of Avon and the community rallied around the plight of "Amelia Airheart," a small Llasa Apso thrown out of a vehicle July 23, resulting in a badly broken pelvis.
Ultimately, the $6,000 surgery to treat the injury was funded by several community donations who rallied around the 1-year-old canine.
