Major Pedestrian Upgrades Planned In Avon

The state of Connecticut is seeking public input on a project to upgrade pedestrian access and signage/signals in a busy part of town.

AVON, CT — The state of Connecticut is upgrading pedestrian access and signage/signals at a busy section of town, with the public asked to weigh by offering input through June 17.

The state Department of Transportation will upgrade the pedestrian facilities and pedestrian signal equipment at the intersection of routes 44 and 202 (West Main Street) and Ensign Drive/Drive to Avon Center Office Park.

Work is necessary to meet the latest federal guidelines.

"It should be noted that the intersection abuts Avon Town Green Park," wrote the DOT in an announcement.

" However, impacts to the park will be minimal in nature. The span pole on park property is existing and proposed to remain, while the new pedestrian upgrades will occur within the state right of way."
