AVON, CT — More than 8,500 Eversource customers lost power when Tropical Storm Isaias moved through Tuesday, according to the utility's outage map. Outages persisted Wednesday as well.
The town released the following statement Wednesday: "Please be advised that Town Hall Offices will remain closed today (Wednesday, August 5th) due to a power outage caused by Tropical Storm Isaias. Please note that at this time, the phone system at the Town Hall Offices is not functioning. Should you require the assistance of Town staff for non-emergency matters during the closure, please contact them by email. Of course, if you need to report an emergency, please dial 9-1-1. Stay safe!"
The town said in a statement Tuesday evening that fallen trees had downed power lines. They advised people to not touch any downed wires and stay inside if possible.
