Avon's National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists Named

Six Avon High School seniors are still in the running for prestigious scholarships at the end of the school year.

AVON, CT — Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation Sept. 12 announced the names of more than 16,000 semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Among the names are six from Avon, who are still eligible for the prestigious scholarships.

They are Avon High School students Imad H. Athar, Sharanya Chatterjee, Michael G. Chen, Abigail E. Chiu, Hope-Eesha Chokshi and Talin Jindal.

The high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition.
