This annual celebration raises funds to support the Avon library’s needs as well as underwriting many of the library’s adult programs (book clubs, author talks, how to write, lectures ranging from classical art to films to history) and children’s programs.

"Sullivan gave a fascinating presentation about her creative writing process and how she went about
researching, planning, writing, and refining her most recent book, 'The Cliffs,' in the same manner as she has developed her previous historically based novels," wrote the Friends in a release.

She then hosted a question-and-answer period with audience members.

Afterwards, Courtney met with some of the guests who had purchased her books for autographs and to take pictures.

Sullivan grew up outside Boston, Mass., and attended Smith College in Northampton, Mass., where she majored in Victorian literature and received numerous awards in writing and literature.

She graduated in 2003 and moved to New York City, where she began working at Allure.

Sullivan later moved on to The New York Times, where she worked for four years.

She now lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two children.
