Obituary ​- Lawrence John Brunoli

Longtime Avon resident and business owner died Nov. 2, 2024

Lawrence John Brunoli, of Avon, Westbrook, and Huntington Connecticut died peacefully Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Essex Meadows Heath Center, surrounded by his children. He was born January 9, 1931 in Avon, son of the late Fred and Theresa Brunoli. He graduated from Towpath grammar school in Avon and Canton High School, Class of 1949. After graduation, he started working with his father and brothers in construction. In 1952 he was drafted into the U.S. Army having served in the 998th Construction Engineer Battalion with a tour of duty in France. Also, in 1952 he married his beloved Mary R. LeRoy of West Hartford, who predeceased him in 1994. In 1997 he married Evelyn Credidio who predeceased him in 2023. He was very grateful for these two marriages during his lifetime.

Fred Brunoli and Sons construction company was formed in 1954 with his brothers Moe and Joe Brunoli along with their father. Lawrence served as the Vice President until 1987 when he started his own company, Lawrence Brunoli, Inc. with his own son Lawrence Jr. Lawrence Brunoli Inc. was established as a General Contractor in 1987. Since that time LBI has completed a wide range of construction projects for various Federal, State and Municipal agencies. These projects have included schools, hospitals, water treatment plants, correctional facilities, parking garages, police stations, University buildings and athletic complexes. In 1999 LBI was nominated by the US Department of Justice for the Federal US Small Business Administration’s Contractor of the Year Award.

Lawrence semi-retired as CEO in 2000. He belonged to the local Knights of Columbus, the Avon Lions Club and for many years was a member of the Avon Boosters Club, helping to build AHS’s first scoreboard. Lawrence was also a member of the Avon Country Club from 1957 to 1998. He and his wife Mary enjoyed many years of family events, friends, and golf. They also enjoyed many years of boating with the Pilots Point Yacht Club. He was a parishioner of the Church of Saint Ann in Avon, St. Mark’s Church in Westbrook, and St. Lawrence Church of Huntington.

Lawrence loved his family, which was the primary focus of his life. He is survived by his son, Lawrence J. Brunoli, Jr. of Winchester Center CT: daughters, Susan Brunoli Stiller and spouse Robert Stiller of Westbrook, CT: Tama Brunoli and spouse Brian Clarke of Westbrook CT and Mary-Michele Brunoli Neagle and spouse Daniel Neagle of Avon CT; his grandchildren, Gregory, Jeffrey, and John Stiller: Alexander Brunoli, Jaime Rudy, Peter Royer Jr., Mary Newman, Danielle Leddy, Sean Neagle, Catherine Neagle and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Norma Vitone and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Irene Brunoli, his two brothers Moe and Joe Brunoli, and his sister Alice DeMund. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Calling hours will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Wednesday, November 6th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 7th at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road in Avon. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Avon.
