Police Make Arrest in Avon Sexual Assault Case
The suspect is currently in custody in Chicopee, MA.

A 29-year-old man is under arrest after a woman was sexually assaulted on the Rails to Trails in Avon.
With the help of the media and the community, the detectives were provided information which led to valuable leads and a potential suspect.
On Friday, detectives obtained a DNA sample by means of a valid search and seizure warrant from suspect Luis Ortiz. The Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory coordinated to get the results to detectives within hours of obtaining the sample.

The sample was a match and an arrest warrant was applied for an issued for Ortiz for first-degree kidnapping and first degree sexual assault with a court set bond of $2 million.
On Monday, detectives were notified that Ortiz was in Chicopee, MA custody and will be awaiting the extradition process.

On June 25, at approximately 12:09 p.m., it was reported that a female in her early 30s was running on the Rails to Trails just south of Scoville Road, when reportedly, a male described as being a white male, approximately 5’6,” with a goatee, wearing sunglasses, black shirt with a reflective vest over the shirt, and a baseball cap came up behind the female and dragged her off the path and sexually assaulted her.
