The closures took effect Monday, June 17, and continue to early August, with another set of closures starting in August.
Town of Avon
AVON, CT — A summer of traffic tie-ups and detours began Monday as a major portion of the $5.5 million Avon Old Farms Road Phase I project started.

Town officials said Scoville Road west of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail will remain open as will the entirety of Old Farms Road during this closure.
Voters on Dec. 14, 2022, approved a $5.5 million appropriation for the first phase of the Old Farms Road reconfiguration project.
This will widen and shift portions of the heavily traveled roadway and, presumably, improve safety and cut down on accidents.
Work on that phase has already begun and it is hoped to be done by December 2025.
More closures/detours later
Following the reopening of Scoville Road, the portion of Old Farms Road from the intersection of Old Farms and Scoville roads to the intersection of Old Farms and Thompson roads will be closed to through traffic.
The dates impacted by this closure are Aug. 12 to Oct. 11, with the closure time being 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The remaining portions of Old Farms Road from the intersection with Scoville Road to the north and from the intersection of Old Farms and Thompson roads to Route 10 will remain open to traffic during this time.
While Phase I of the project marches to completion town/state officials are also planning a second phase.
Phase II — also dubbed the "East/West Section" — is in the planning stages and would require an additional, voter-approved appropriation.
The second phase of this project involves additional Old Farms Road re-alignments and replacing two bridges to widen lanes and improve safety.
No price tag has been finalized for Phase II.
