AVON, CT — Despite predicted rain, Local firefighters on Saturday are planning a special event that promises to be fun, educational, and it just might help the volunteer fire department grow its ranks.
The Avon Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for new members, and it is welcoming everyone to an open house at its Co. 1 headquarters at 25 Darling Drive on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. rain or shine.

"Come visit the AVFD — learn more about what firefighters and other volunteer personnel do," wrote firefighters in an announcement.
Among the activities planned are: A motor vehicle extrication demonstration, a guided firehouse tour, displays of the town's fire trucks, fire hose lessons, and volunteer firefighter meet-and-greets.

"There will be plenty to do for both kids and adults, and we will be serving grilled hot dogs," wrote the AVFD.
Some parking is available at the firehouse. Additional parking is available at RMI, located at 40 Darling Drive.
