Simsbury Man Hopes to Recover Bike Stolen at Buckland Hills Mall

The victim says he agreed to meet a potential buyer through an ad placed on Craigslist in the parking lot of the Shoppes at Buckland Hills mall, only for the man to take off with his bike when he turned his back.

Simsbury resident Tommy McCully just wants his bike back.

McCully told Patch this weekend that he was looking to sell his grey 2007 Honda CBR1000RR motorcycle and placed an ad for it on Craiglist. He said he agreed to meet a prospective buyer in the parking lot of the Shoppes at Buckland Hills mall Thursday evening at 9 p.m., only for the man to "take off" with his bike when he turned his back.

McCully said he arrived at the mall around 9 p.m. Thursday to meet the potential buyer, a white male who he described as approximately 5'10 around 25 to 30 years old with a short goatee "wearing a military style baseball cap and a dark sweatshirt and jeans and work boots." McCully said the man arrived in a bright orange, newer-body style Mustang with several friends. He said the man described himself as "Joe" and used a pre-paid cellphone.

McCully said the man asked him to test the clutch on the bike, so he pulled it out of the back of his truck and, while the man was rocking back and forth on the bike, he heard the Mustang "peel" out of the mall parking lot. McCully said he turned to look, then turned back around to watch as the man drove away with his bike.

McCully said he reported the theft to the Manchester Police Department, but that he is also hoping that people might recognize his bike from the attached picture and provide information.
